 AAL Summit 2012
“Market and Policy Development for an Ageing Society Conference”

The AAL Summit 2012: Market and Policy Development for an Ageing Society Conference" took place at Bilbao, Spain, between 27 and 29 June 2012.

The motto of the conference was New Avenues to fill the gap between Health and Welfare demands and effective ICT solutionsIts main objective was to address the mismatches between Policy and Technology in order to drive investment and to enable the deployment of AAL solutions at scale, by:

  • providing a detailed identification of the different market barriers that currently impede AAL solutions from being deployed and used by the citizens who really need them.

  • finding new ways and procedures to overcome the current market barriers.

  • addressing the need to drive AAL products and solutions to being commercially available as mainstream products.

  • tackling the need for the design of new policies in order to remove current constraints.

  • analysing the real needs of potential buyers and end-users to avoid mismatches between offer and demand.

ARTICA and INOVA+, on behalf of the AgeingWell Network, submitted a paper to this event with a view to disseminate recent project results and to promote the network activities. A formal presentation of the “Network for the Market Uptake of ICT for Ageing Well” was made on the 28 June in session PT14 “Building the case for AAL investment”. The abstract is available here and the presentation can be downloaded here.

Some 400 participants from across Europe attended the conference that was organized by the AAL JP, the Basque Government, Osakidetza, and Tecnalia.
